Look Back: Pictures from the Old Flotkens Supermarket

The building that will soon house Shane Co. was a grocery story until 1985. See some historical pictures from those days. Richard Simmons was among the celebrities to pass through the doors.

We asked Mike Flotken for permission to run some of his historic photos of Flotkens supermarket when it was housed in the Olivette store at 9643 Olive Boulevard — the store that is being renovated for a Shane Co. jewelry store that is moving from Brentwood.

Enjoy the look back and let us know if you have any memories of the store. Here's a link to Mike Flotken's website with more history and memories of the store.

Priceless photos. Flotkens was the place to shop during the 1950s and 60s.

....and the 70's. It was a warm and welcoming store with high quality food, great customer service and no-hassle shopping. The community mourned when it closed - and some of us are STILL missing it. Carol Kaplan-Lyss

I remember Mr. Spector the meat man. Mom would order the meat, he wrapped it up and I asked for it when I got to the meat counter after walking up Olivaire Lane. Passover pix reminds me of mother loving the long wax paper sheets of chocolate macaroons we'd get at the front counter. Oh if I could remember the tall checkout lady that worked there from day one until it closed .
