Opening Date Set for Family Dollar in Olivette

The date is set now that the contractor has gotten through several key inspections with the city.

An opening date has been set for the Family Dollar store under construction at 9435 Olive Blvd.: Aug. 1.

That's according to Bryn R. Winburn, public relations manager for the company, based in Charlotte, NC. The store in the Olivette Plaza, which replaces a costume jewelry store that used to occupy the space, would join 56 other Family Dollars in the immediate St. Louis metropolitan area.

"Our goal is to open stores in neighborhoods and communities that are in close proximity to where our customers live and work," Winburn said. "Our real estate team utilized sophisticated modeling software to determine that Olivette would be ideal site for an additional Family Dollar store."

Tim Wadelton, superintendent for the general contractor, Southwestern Services, told Patch the store had just passed some key inspections with the city of Olivette, which meant it would have the green light to move toward opening.

He described the store at 95 percent completed, with only ceiling work and a move-in left to do. He said the move-in typically only takes about a week when the company takes custody of the store.

The store space, which used to house a costume jewelry shop, is slightly over 10,000 square feet.
