WASHINGTON – Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, announced Triumph Pharmaceuticals of St. Louis, Missouri as a finalist for the 2014 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The award is the DoD’s highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of National Guard and Reserve employees. The top 30 employers were selected from a pool of 2,864 nominations submitted earlier this year by National Guard and Reserve service members.

The employers selected as Freedom Award finalists distinguish themselves by supporting their National Guard and Reserve employees through policies and initiatives that go above and beyond in assisting and encouraging their military service. Triumph Pharmaceuticals’ nominator, an Army National Guardsman, highlighted how the new CEO asked the service member what the company can do to support the National Guard and Reserve. The company has since required annual training on the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) for all employees, donates more than 63,000 care package items and posts all open positions on Hero2Hired, granting automatic interviews to service members and veterans. Staff members also provide assistance to the families of service members deployed, including babysitting and picking up children from school.

“These 30 employers have gone above and beyond to provide our military men and women as well as their families the absolute best support possible,” said ESGR Executive Director Ronald G. Young. “An employer's support is just as critical as a military member’s family support and we are proud to have a way to recognize these outstanding employers through this program.”

Senior DoD officials, business leaders and prior awardees will now select up to 15 Freedom Award recipients to be honored at the 19th annual Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award ceremony at the Pentagon in September.
