Crime Blotter: Someone Really Did Steal His Lunch

Well, at least his lunch box. Police don't know if lunch was actually in the box.

We hear all the time about "crimes of opportunity" in which a burglar busts out a car window to steal the GPS system or the cellphone they find on the car seat.

But stealing a lunch box? Really? Is the economy that bad?

But that's apparently what happened on Dec. 12, according to a report from the Olivette Police Department: "Unknown subject broke a window out of the victim's van and stole a lunch box."

The incident happened on Bauer Boulevard, in what Olivette police Det. Craig Schneider described as a commercial area of the city on the north side. He speculated that the lunch was from a worker parked at one of the businesses.

Schneider said it was an "adult" lunch box — not a child's Scooby-Doo or Power Rangers box — but he didn't know if it actually had Dec. 12's lunch in it.

The lesson: Remember not to leave you valuables in view in your car — even if your valuables are only your lunch box.
