Man Accused of Murdering His Father Was On Probation for Arson

Vinita Park Police said the man stabbed his father repeatedly Aug. 15.

Jarvis Simms, a Vinita Park man accused stabbing his father to death Aug. 15, had been on probation for second-degree arson for setting a fire in 2007.

Simms, 28, pleaded guilty to the arson in 2008 and was given a suspended execution of sentence and five years supervised probation.

Simms was charged Aug. 15 with first-degree murder and armed criminal action A witness told police Simms stabbed Scott repeatedly with a large-bladed knife.

Vinita Park Police Chief Greg Moore told Patch he did not know of a motive for the murder. He said Vinita Park Police have been responding to domestic calls at the home in the 8300 block of Monroe Street for several years.

Simms has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Police said in the probable cause statement that Simms stabbed Scott “after deliberation.”

Simms is being held in St. Louis County Justice Services Center without bond.
