Olivette Asks Residents to Sign Up for Emergency Alerts
The city contracted last month with Emergency Communications Network for "reverse 911" emergency and weather alerts that can be sent to phones, cellphones and email.
Olivette city officials are asking residents to sign up now for emergency alerts so they can be alerted if severe weather or a city-wide emergency pops up.
The city approved a three-year contract in mid-December with Emergency Communications Network, a company that provides "reverse 911" alerts to residents in hundreds of communities nationwide.
Residents with listed numbers will automatically get voice alerts to their home phones. Residents can add their cellphone numbers and email addresses to get text alerts.

"No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included," said Olivette Fire Chief John Bailot in a statement. Residents can sign up for the service and make sure their home number is included at the sign-up page on the city of Olivette website.
Residents without Internet access can call Bailot at 314-983-5220 or Police Chief Rick Knox at 314-983-5201 to provide information orally.

The alert system will cost the city $7,635 in the first year and $9,260 in each of last two years.
