The tale started with a search by Overland police for a male suspect, and has seemed to have ended with the discovery of a man fleeing from an Olivette homeowner's basement, according to local television reports.
KMOV-TV says a homeowner captured a photo of a strange man leaving the homeowner's basement, after the homeowner discovered him hiding there.
KSDK-TV reported that, according to police, the suspect broke a window and stayed overnight in the house; the homeowner found the broken window and went downstairs to investigate.
The incident occurred at a home near the Olivette-Ladue border.
Police from three different agencies spent hours canvassing nearby neighborhoods. The suspect remains on the loose Sunday night, according to officials, but is not believed to be armed or still in the same area.
