City Asks Residents: Don't Park on Street, Keep Clear of Plows

Olivette snow plows have been busy since 9 a.m. and will continue through the night and into Monday.

Olivette city officials just posted this warning to residents, asking people to keep cars off the streets to make way for snow plows and to wear reflective gear if they're going to be out and about walking in the dark in the snow.

Here is the update in its entirety:

The City of Olivette's top priority in a snowstorm is plowing City and private streets to ensure safe passage for motorists and emergency vehicles.  This task may require several trips down the same route.

City staff began working Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and will continue working through the night and Monday.  For everyone's safety please do NOT park vehicles on the street and maintain a safe distance of at least 200 feet behind snow plows.

If you are a winter enthusiast and enjoy walking during snow storms please wear bright colors and a reflective vest or light at night.

Snow plowed from roads could end up blocking private driveways and mailboxes for some time. It is NEVER the intent of our operators to purposely block driveways or mailboxes.  Snow on city and private streets must be cleared to the curb line.

The city recognizes the inconvenience this causes, but because of limited time and resources, plows can only clear private driveways at the request of local emergency officials.

To reduce the amount of snow that might block your driveway, shovel an open area along the shoulder at the entrance (see illustration attached to this article provided by MODOT). Plow blades will then push snow into the area just before your driveway, leaving a much smaller amount in front of it.
