Olivette Law Says: Shovel Your Sidewalk or You Could Be Fined

With the light dusting of snowfall on Tuesday, we thought it would be a good time to remind Olivette homeowners that city ordinances require them to clear the snow from the sidewalk in front of their home.

"When it snows in Olivette, the city depends on its citizens to be helpful, responsible, and aware of the need to remove all snow and ice from the public sidewalks," officials said in the most recent city newsletter.

Olivette residents are required to remove snow and ice "from the entire constructed width of the sidewalk."

Failing to do so could result in a $100 fine.

According to the ordinance: “It shall be the duty of the owner and occupant of property on which a sidewalk is located, or which is adjacent to a sidewalk, to maintain such sidewalk clear and free of dirt, debris, snow and ice. Snow and ice shall be removed within twenty-four (24) hours following a snowfall.”
