What's Next For a Recreation Complex in Warson Park?

This will be the focus of the Olivette administration & Economic Development Commission.

Ladue developers Jay Williamson and Joe Bannister have put a $10 million dollar sports complex concept before the City of Olivette.

The mayor of Olivette Missy Waldman looks at it this way: "We need to have this be a discussion item on our next council workshop and it needs to be the only item on the agenda."

That would fall on Tuesday, June 11, the next meeting in the rotation.

This is where council members dialogue at length issues of importance to the city.

Williamson and Bannister are working on bringing a twin ice rink; outdoor turfed fields for the fastest growing sports, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey. There will likely be no baseball, no football or other sports.

Comments on the Olivette Patch have varied from strong support to concerns over lighting and flying pucks.

The land, some 25 acres in the northwest portion of the city has sat mostly unused for years and years. The city had to pay more than $80,000 just to tear down the old Saints Roller Rink.

A community center is still used on Grandview drive, though a bond issue failed before the voters to tear that aging structure down.

The developers are facing some deadlines of their own. Different Missouri economic boards divvy up money for sports developments with a July 1 deadline looming.
