What will happen to the baseball league that plays on the fields now?
How will this benefit…Read More Olivette? Taxes? Sale of land? Can that land be sold?
What will happen to the Community Center?
Will Olivette not bring their existing plan (the past bond issue) back to the table...didn't it fail only by a few points?
Will Olivette have any input in the design?

Sorry to offend you, Ms. Crisman. I live about 300 yards from the Olivette City Line and did not…Read More realize I had to live in Olivette to make a comment. My daughter and many of her friends grew up playing in the OAA Leagues as little kids and it was great. She now is 36, lives in Olivette with her three little kids who have all played in the OAA and enjoyed it immensely. Hopefully, with this new development they can only expand their athletic prowess and enjoy the wonderful amenities that this new plan will offer. Maybe residents who don't like the sounds of kids having fun and parents and fans cheering them on should not live near parks or athletic fields. Kind of like residents who want to move into a subdivision with a golf course bordering it and then complaining about golf balls being hit in their yard. I like to see kids and young people enjoying sports and simply not sitting behind the computer or play station games or roaming the streets at night. Nothing better than athletics for kids!!

I was with a friend who knew him at a banquet once. Stan was my boyhood hero since about the mid 1950's. He was so highly respected as a person that I…Read More tried to pattern my life after him, and I think I became a better person for having had him as someone I idolized and wanted to be like. He and my father and mother were all born in the same year (1920) and they were all heroes to me. I am feeling very sad this morning.

When Stan turned 65, I produced a series of TV spots with him for Blue Cross Blue Shield. I picked…Read More him up at his house to head to the recording studio. Stan asked how many people would be involved at the studio. I told him about 30. He went back in the house and came out carrying a large leather suitcase. The TV shoot took three days. As we wrapped up, Stan ask everyone to gather round the table he was seated at. For the next hour and a half, Stan invited each person there to sit with him for a few minutes. He signed balls made out to the person and even signed additional ball for their kids if they ask. He also took plenty of time for photos. Stan was not only one of the all time great baseball players, but he was also one of the all time great ambassadors for the game. God bless Stan and his family.

When my husband was around ten years old, he was going to the Cardinal game with his Dad and Uncle.…Read More They were running late and walking briskly along Grand Avenue. My husband, Harry, in his ball uniform, baseball glove on his hand and listening to the game on his transistor radio all of a sudden heard that Stan the Man had just hit, what looked likely to be, an out of the ballpark homer. Harry ran out on to Grand Avenue and caught that ball - Amazing! He then was able to go up to the announcer's box with Mr. Buck and all the regulars. He actually was able to draw the men beers (you could do that back then) and Stan signed his ball. What a treasured possession!

I am a former TWA flight attendant and was fortunate enough to have STAN THE MAN on a short flight…Read More one day. He came prepared to sign autographs for anyone who wanted one....always accomodating. As a crew menber, I hesitated to invade his privacy but I just couldn't help myself on this occasion so I produced my son, Dan's, little league card. Without skipping a beat, Stan wrote "To Dan the Man from Stan the Man!"My son is now 40 and has treasured that card for the last 31 years and I treasure the memory of meeting such a class act. Those were the good old days!!!!
