I was in an accident where the other person ran a red light. This was not a photo enforced light butRead More it did have a traffic camera for which I was very grateful. The person who ran the red light and made a left turn right into me stated to the police that I had run the light. My insurance company and lawyer had to subpoena the footage but it told the truth and I was able to have his insurance company pay for all my damages and injuries. The only issue I have is that all the photo enforced red light cameras are all sequenced the same without a short yellow which some municipalities were doing until the state stepped in. I think the state needs to adhere to stick regulations and monitor municipalities. The unmanned speed cameras are a complete different thing and should be outlawed.

If you rear-end someone at a red light because they stopped short, then you shouldn't have beenRead More following too close. You know you are coming up to a signal, increase your following distance, slow 5 mph, and leave yourself an out. In my opinion, everyone should have to take, and pass, the SMITH system of driving.

Agreed...you are not supposed to speed up as you see a yellow light. In fact you should slow a bitRead More when it is green and scope the intersection for safety as you proceed. That is called defensive driving...in case some nut case is running across traffic as you enter the intersection. I have done this and stopped for yellows all my driving years. A lot of drivers are too young to know that the allowed right turn on red wasn't enacted until the 70s oil/gas crisis. It was to save motorists' gas. That light when red should still be treated as a STOP sign with a full stop not a slow down and turn action. People who disobey the law cost cities more money. In Wentzville after Pearce/Parkway intersection was widened, drivers still made u-turns near QuikTrip and Arby's, so more No U-TURN signs had to go up. I've still seen some u-turns in that area...people must be too lazy to do the correct thing. The license privilege should be more costly and actually require skills for safety to others...Eww you got a license after taking a written test and a feeble road test on a few side streets. Makes you a real good driver, huh? No testing on busy streets and Interstate Highways (another place where violations are many). So much whining about paying fines from red light cameras, but not much crabbed about when paying your Personal Property tax every year for the vehicle. Don't violate the laws for red light running, speeding, etc. There are reasons for them that you probably don't comprehend.

I would be interested in hearing if the City of Maplewood has any plans to protect residents whoRead More live near the vacant property at Sutton and Flora. Every time it rains, there is a huge swamp on the property where the house used to sit. Over the past several summers there has been a considerable mosquito problem and I can't even imagine what it will be like this year with an untended swamp next to our homes.
