Perpetrators resort to leaving list in editors mailbox to get the word out!
Talk about an act of desperation? The Ladue “Senior List” got out again, and hardly anyone noticed. That's that smutty, hateful stuff juniors write about popular senior girls then distribute under the cover of darkness. I thought I had the hottest of hot news. I thought the list had just gotten out again. I called Ladue PR maven Susan Dielmann who broke my heart by telling me I was relaying some really old news. That’s what you get for being late to the rodeo. I checked some high school sources and one said: “I think I heard something about the list, but I never, ever even saw one.” What a bust. Maybe, if the Weather Gods cooperate, Ladue will have its first outdoor graduation ceremonies in years. Seems a threat of rain has pushed this event indoors the last several years. This Patch Editor (Jim Baer) will be out and about, asking the freshly-minted graduates to briefly and quickly share their favorite thoughts on video. It could be as simple as what you liked best about Ladue High, or what you plan to do with the rest of your life. A braker is someone who halts, slows or restrains. A “HateBraker” is someone who hits the brakes on hate. They are victims, bystanders and perpetrators who have stopped the cycle of violence in their community. Perfect day for racing for Zeke Elliott, Burroughs; Madison Barker & Colin Cernik, Ladue.
Some 39 teams and about 1,000 athletes took part in the annual Brusca-Strobach track meet, held on the artificial surface at Ladue Horton Watkins High School Saturday. Skies were crystal clear and it was a little windy, but conditions were perfect for runners with temperatures in the mid 50s. Brusca/Strobach track meet at Ladue: water polo tournament at Burroughs and more on tap today.
The weather is promising and the local teams will be in competition this morning and later today. Here's what's going on today: Track & Field Nearly 1,000 athletes will descend upon the Ladue Horton Watkins campus to compete in the annual Brusca/Strobach track meet. All eyes will be on Burroughs sprinter Ezekiel Elliott as he challenges records in the sprints and hurdle events. Boys lacrosse (10-3) CBC will be at Ladue on the West Ladue campus at noon. The Rams are 12-2 this season.This will be a real challenge for the home team Rams. At 2 p.m. O'Fallon, Illinois visits MICDS. Girls soccer Ladue (10-3) goes to Ritenour (4-5) for an 11 a.m. match. Host Rams are looking for some warmer weather and clear skies and a day of great competition.
For those who love track and field, it doesn't get any better than the Brusca/Strobach meet at Ladue Horton Watkins High School Saturday. This has grown into one of the premier meets of the spring season. The weather can be downright iffy. A couple of years ago, organizer and Ladue head track coach Keith Harder had to send everyone home because of a total rainout. "This has been the worst weather season I can remember," said Harder, keeping his pulse on the long-range forecast. This will be a real treat. A late entrant are the boys of John Buroughs. The month of May is just around the corner, and two stores in the Olivette Shopping Center are stocked and ready to go for all the graduation needs. Ladue High's Anna Nelson has been a standout for both the cross country and track teams at Ladue. After looking at a variety of schools, she is taking her talents to either SMU or TCU next year. Golden Gopher rower is a former multi sport standout at Ladue.
The last time we ran into Ladue athlete Chris Shirley, he was a wrestler and a water polo player. Shirley is a rare breed. He earned 12 varsity letters over 4 years at Ladue Horton Watkins High School. After trying his hand at water polo at the University of Minnesota, he has taken up rowing in a big way. He is a member of the men’s rowing team in Minneapolis, traveling recently to spring training in Austin, TX and will row in a regatta in Gainsville, GA in May. While rowing is an NCAA sport for the women at Minnesota and other schools, mostly the men row as a club activity.
