Olivette Police: Local Business Break-Ins May Be Related

Det. Craig Schneider said police are investigating whether cases at Subway and Chevy's are connected to cases in U City, Clayton and Maryland Heights.

Burglars smashed a concrete block through the door of the new Subway restaurant on Jan. 8. That same night, another Subway in University City was broken into and thieves took a cash box. Just a few days earlier, on Christmas Eve, burglars also smashed the door at the Chevy's Fresh Mex restaurant down Olive Boulevard. Police say the incidents may be related—and may be related to similar incidents in University City, Clayton and Maryland Heights. Olivette Det. Craig Schneider said he is consulting with colleagues in neighboring communities on the case. "We're coordinating with other agencies," he said. "There have been other municipalities that have had doors smashed. It's the same (mode of operation) as the Subway." In both Olivette cases, …

UPDATE: New Subway Restaurant May Open Thursday in Olivette

The owner says this store features the chain's new decorating style and a different way to serve customers in the line.

Update: The original version of the story is below, but Patch has learned after touching bases with the owner today that the opening may be postponed to Thursday. If everything goes according to plan, another new business is due to open in Olivette on Wednesday — one week after the last one. A new Subway sandwich shop at 9641 Olive Blvd. is set to open on Wednesday, according to store owner Amir Zoroufchy, who was working to clean up and prepare the shop when Patch visited on Monday afternoon. "We've been wanting to open in Olivette for a long time," said Zoroufchy, who, with his partner, own three other Subways in Creve Coeur and one in Chesterfield.  He said he had to settle on a location that was the required distance from other Subway …

Subway Is Latest Food Shop Moving into Town

The new location of the sandwich shop moves into the former location of the Land of Smile Thai restaurant.

Olivette city officials have signed off on inspections, issued building permits and generally paved the way for the opening of a new Subway sandwich shop to open at 9641 Olive Blvd., the former location of a Thai restaurant in the city. Land of Smile is making way for the Subway, which city officials say is owned by the same franchisee as a Subway located on Page Avenue in Overland. "We've done all the inspections and we've been talking to the franchise owner," said George Kieffer, building inspector and plan reviewer for Olivette. "The intent is to open soon." He didn't have an exact date. Patch is reaching out to the franchisee to get more details and will have an update when it's available. A worker at the site of the remodeling inside …
